I Think I Really Need To Cut Back On The Overtime

December 21, 2008 at 5:24 pm (General WhatsIt)

So, I planned to work overtime today a few days ago.

Yesterday I had the whole day off, just so I could have one day when I wasn’t at work.

So, I awoke this morning, showered, dressed, went downstairs only to discover that the Mister had been up all night with Danny and was now sleeping on the couch (Oh sweet gods of payback… ). So, instead of chilling out before work, I decided to just go on in. I had been there early before, where I was the only person in the whole building for an hour or two- so today would be no different.

I went inside, clocked in, and began working. Then it started…

I would hear bangs, and slams. Things moving, and scratching. I’m pretty sure I even heard something (or someone) crawling through the ventilation shafts.

Now, it may have been because it was the crack ass of dawn… but thoughts of zombies and Die Hard esque corporate building take overs began to enter my mind. With every sound my head would whip around looking for its source. I even began to explore the building looking for the causes of aformentioned sounds. I could find nothing (and no one) to make the noises. I returned to my desk, and the sounds resumed. I considered going home, because I was honestly starting to become frigbhtened, but then I thought about all of those movies where the hapless employee gets scared… gathers their things and make a break for the door… only to be jumped by zombies in the lobby.

I called a work associate to see if he was coming in, you know… in case my body needed to be identified from being zombie eaten or blown up. I stuck through it, jumping with every crash and slam…

… I never did discover what it was that was making those noises.

on the other hand, I did discover this taped to the printer…

Boxes

December 12, 2008 at 7:54 am (General WhatsIt)

You can totally tell who had a desk job and who didn’t amongst the group of work newbies I’m in. After desks were finally assigned is when I discovered this.

Lunch came and went, and people slowly arrived at their new desks.

Those who had never had a desk job before had a picture or two, maybe a box of tissues. Those who had a desk job before had these ginormous boxes over brimming with things, so that it looked like college dorm move in day. Within half an hour those people had desks that appeared as though they had been working there for years.

I am somewhat jealous of their desks. While I have a small smattering of pictures on my own desk, its not nearly as awesome as it could be. One guy has a Boba Fett statue on his desk… a BOBA FETT STATUE…. its as long as my forearm (granted, I have TRex arms…. but still)!

I must have something equal in awesomeness… I’m thinking maybe a Dalek and sonic screwdriver.

Living @ Work

December 7, 2008 at 8:15 am (General WhatsIt)

I’ve been kind of skimpy on the blog lately, mainly because I really have been spending all of my time at work. My schedule has looked like this:

Mon- Orientation Day/start training

Tue- Train

Wed- Train/Work (we totally should have had a few more weeks of training by their own admission, but its the busy season)

Thur- Turkey Day

Fri- Office closed, but I worked Overtime

Sat- Overtime

Sun- Off

Mon- worked

Tue- Worked, then worked overtime

Wed- worked, then worked overtime

Thur- worked, then worked overtime

Fri- worked, then worked overtime

Sat- worked overtime

Today, Sun- going in to work overtime

I worked a lot of overtime for the before Christmas paycheck, because I have 4 kids… that’s a lot of presents. Plus, because its a new job you want to make a good impression… you know?

What’s sort of wearing me down really is the home life. Once I clock out of work and come home, I’m still doing all of the jobs I did before I worked since the Mister is currently out of commission. I do get help from my BIL when he’s here to help out, its just a little draining right now.

I haven’t knitted a stitch since I’ve been hired. I need to though, so I can finish the Thcrapth pattern… and I have to make Danny a stocking like I did for the other boys. If you are not a Raveler… I used the International Sock Of Doom Pattern, used US8s, omitted the Rib of Doom,  Did a few rows of 2×2 rib, then did stockinette and lengthened the measurement to the heel, and did the rest as you would in sock like fashion. I use that sock pattern for everything.

That’s pretty much it for now. Now I am off for the shower so I can get ready for work.

The Desert Bus Shall Run…. Forever

December 2, 2008 at 9:26 pm (General WhatsIt)

Last year I wrote about the Desert Bus for Hope, where an adventurous group of Canadian comediens decided to play Penn & Teller’s Desert Bus in hopes of raising money for Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play foundation.

Those kooky Canadians are once again at the helm of the accursed bus as they attempt to double what they made last year (and they already have)… but don’t let them off easy… make them drive…. F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

Bonus, you can once again watch the driver cam and interact with the Loading Ready Run guys… real time. They are an awesome friendly bunch of guys (and gals) who are super funny and will do just about anything for your cash donations (including shaving and waxing one another in addition to driving the bus). So, if you’re in the habit of a little holiday giving, think of maybe sending some cash…

Work is going fairly well. I’ve been clocking alot of overtime hours, and will be clocking some more this week.  I figure as long as they offer, I’ll keep taking them up on it… Christmas and bills right?

On the good news front, the Mister and I already received some Christmas presents… two new members of the family…. Mr Washy and Mr Dry-y. Yep, my in laws bought us a new washer and dryer- which is awesome! Now the Mister can do laundry at home, his being lame and all (lame as in a still casted foot and crutches… not general overall uncoolness) was making getting to the laundromat a bit difficult.

Overall, we’re doing really good round these parts… yay!
