Long Weekends

November 28, 2008 at 9:48 pm (General WhatsIt)

So far I am really still loving the new job. Today and tomorrow they are letting me put in overtime so I can have a little extra Christmas money in the first check. Its also allowing me to get a better handle on the job itself. My trainer was a very nice lady, but she claimed that it takes her 5 weeks to adequately train people… and she had us only for 2 days. How ever being a knitter, hands on really works for me… so far I think I’m doing pretty well. My one supervisor was surprised at how well the lot of us did today. She said we all got far more done than she expected.

My key card still doesn’t work, so I’m still a door loomer.  I’m doomed to forever loom.

There is a down side to this new working Stephieface though, Danny is really upset by the whole thing. He cries alot whenever I leave the house now, and is super industrial clingy when I get home. It breaks my heart, and makes me feel guilty for liking the job so much. The Mister says it will all work itself out… eventually.

Tomorrow I ask about the plausibility of listening to a mp3 player while I work… wish me luck.

First Days

November 25, 2008 at 9:51 pm (General WhatsIt)

Yesterday was my first day at my new job. It was awesome, and a little scary. Most likely due to my nerves from the Mister getting his operation, I ended up falling on to the floor right on my ass having missed my chair by a few inches. So then I popped up, like toast. After they asked if I was okay, I replied “Yeah, at least I got that out of the way”. After that, throughout the day, I proceded to accidently launch throat lozenges across the room every time I tried to open one up.

Today was much easier, though my key card still won’t open any doors… so I end up looming outside hoping someone will happen by. They’ve tried to fix it, hopefully it works tomorrow. I still need to get one of those zippy cord thingies that attach to your belt loop, because I’ve already dropped it like a billion times.

I have to say though, I really really like it so far. I seriously do. So far I’ve been with a trainer, so tomorrow I meet my supervisor. Pretty exciting.

So Close

November 21, 2008 at 12:55 pm (General WhatsIt)

Monday I start the new job, and the Mister goes in for his leg surgery. Its all a little nerve wracking.

I haven’t worked outside of the home for 6 years now. While I’m certain that I can do the job no problem, I am also certain that I will miss the boys most severely. I’m looking forward to this new oppurtunity for our family, but its something new and different and is something that will take a try or two to get used to.

The Mister’s operation is the thing that most worries me, simply because he’ll be put under for it. I’m always nervous when people are put under. Last month when Danny was in the hospital and was being put under every other day it seemed, I was nervous each and every time. Though, I think I handled it a lot better than I did the first time he was put under.

To relieve stress, I’ve been working on a new Discworld inspired pattern, which will be called “Thcrapth”. If you have never read the series (though you totally should, you don’t even have to read them in order) there are Igors. You know, classic Igor, the mad scientist lab assistant who speaks with a lisp. Now, the pattern, will be a toy pattern so that, like Igor, you can create your own customized dog (adding as many legs, tails, ears, and tongues as you so wish).

Keep your eyeth peeled on thith thpathe for the pattern.

I’m Asking For More Luck Wishes

November 11, 2008 at 12:09 am (General WhatsIt)

Tomorrow (Tuesday) I return to the place I went and interviewed with on Thursday for another interview. I’ve already completed some of their required application testing, so this should be the final no-holds-barred interview that determines if I get hired or not. So send a few good vibes my way… k?

I’m really nervous, not so much about the interview, but really more about life in general. On the 24th the Mister goes in for leg surgery, so its make or break time here for Stephieface employment. I need something, and I need it now… you know? I just hope everything doesn’t fall apart and screw the rest of the year. That would really suck.

Then, my cousin is holding a Thanksmas party at the beginning of Dec, and though I really would like to go… I have no idea how things will be then. Will the Mister be kosher to travel? Will I be able to drive there and back all by my lonesome, since its his pedal hitting foot that will be out of commission? Will we be able to afford it then, since that’s when the paycheck switch up will hit?

A tender thread they say… le sigh…

When I’m feeling a little stressed, like now, I start thinking of my fantasy yarn shop. A yarn shop which I own and get to handpick all of the employees. Like the guy working the cash register would be Ian McShane.

mcshane-deadwood_1149274159-000

He would use that voice of his to convince customers just how scandalously wonderful the new yarn is. Customers might even get a little squiggly when he gives them store coupons to use, like he was doing it just for them.

Then, for the Technical Service… you know, knots that can’t be undone, dropped stitches, trying to find the end of a yarn skein… I would have David Tennant…

Because anyone who have ever been a Doctor and a Time Lord would most certainly be able to fix those kinds of problems. Of course, I may have some issues with customers intentionally putting knots in yarn and losing skein ends just so they require his services… but I wouldn’t blame them.

Then there would be the guy in charge of patterns and books… MIchael Sheen, because he makes this small squirrelly part of me just squee…

sheen_lI would especially squee everytime he licked his thumb to turn pages… oh… and read me passages from some of the knitting books.

Then, my stockers… dressed shirtless in kilts all day… Gerard Butler (of course!)…

kilt12-1-1

And Richard Armitage…

028

And rolling around in the Merino would be Jensen Ackles…

Because Merino is my favorite fiber, and well… Jensen rolling around in it would make it awesome.

Then, because I believe in a full service LYS, there would be a small coffee counter and serving your espressos and Earl Grey would be Zachary Quinto…

quinto-as-spock

Because, couldn’t you imagine that smile serving you coffee?

Yes… that is indeed my happy place. Wouldn’t you love to come and join me?

Right… So Here Goes

November 6, 2008 at 9:59 am (General WhatsIt)

The final diagnosis for Danny was thus… he has an aberrant right subclavian artery. Basically, one of his arteries has taken the scenic route to do its job, and wraps around his esophagus which causes him to choke on occasion. They’re hoping he’ll grow out of it (I did ask how one is expected to grow out of an anotomical anomalie… I have yet to get an answer), but if it gets worse in six months they may operate. So, as of right now, he’s “fine”. Thanks everyone for your well wishes and prayers.

On the work front, I have about a bajillion applications out and today I’m going to a career fair for a health company out here in Moon. I need something, and I need it nowish… the Mister goes in for the first of a few operations on the 24th.

Wish me luck!

The Halloweenie Update

November 1, 2008 at 12:02 am (General WhatsIt)

We’re still here at the hospital. We’ll probably be here all weekend. What I’m being told is that Danny has a wee bit of a wiring issue… and though the wires are rigged and working just like they are supposed to, the fact that they aren’t put together like they should be is causing some unrelated problems (ie there’s a blood vessel doing what blood vessels do, but isn’t where it should be doing it which is causing the choking).

But, before I prepare to hunker down for sleep in the torture chair… err pull out chair bed… I thought I’d write up some things that I learned and noticed…

For some strange reason, I trust and feel safe around any doctors and workers who look like Saul Tigh from the new Battlestar Galatica (Michael Hogan)

When you are waiting for food and it finally shows up is when they will take you off for tests

For some unknown reason there are doctors and nurses who enoy turning on the lights over me and Danny, so they can see to work on the next kid over… but not wake that kid up… and totally rob us of rest.

Hospital waffles can be used to sand a newly built deck in leu of sandpaper

My dad believes that there is a doctor here who thinks I am really really cute and flirt worthy… hopefully she knows I’m married and unavailable (though I may owe that doctor one, since she seems to be the only person in the hospital able to give Danny an IV without blowing any veins)

There is a piece of artwork on the wall on the way to the cafeteria that I want to steal… I wonder if they’d notice (it totally goes with my ‘Revolution’ cell phone ring)

My favorite TV station at the hospital is the C.A.R.E. station which plays beautiful scenery and relaxing music 24 hours a day… and at night its twinkling stars.

Of all the people my son could be roomed with, the family of the kid in the other bed are super awesome and nice. They rocks bunches

The bacon is crispy… and by crispy I mean touch it and it turns to ash.
