Not The Scare I Was Looking For

October 30, 2008 at 6:06 pm (General WhatsIt)

Right now, as I write this, I am at Children’s Hospital. Danny has been admitted and we’ve been here for a day already (sleeping in the pull out chair sucks). We should be here still tomorrow. A bit ago I wrote about how Danny chokes a lot. On Tuesday I took him for a scoping where the discovered that there’s a blood vessel being all weird in his throat. Yesterday we came for an MRI, and were instead admitted with no hope of seeing daylight until Friday at the earliest. Long story short, I’ve been here at the hospital and only just got access to a computer.

I have no idea how serious it is right now, if its serious at all. BUt that’s the current update. I’m here, I’ve missed Sam’s birthday (yesterday), and Halloween in Moon, and most likely Halloween in Pittsburgh. The Mister and I were supposed to go away for the weekend tomorrow… but I have no idea if that is going to happen or not now. We’ll have to see.

I’m ust glad that I was able to reach the outside.

Still Looking, Still Waiting

October 24, 2008 at 9:46 am (General WhatsIt)

I’m still looking for a job, and still waiting to hear back from the first place. What I’m waiting for is for all of the background reports to come through. Now, I don’t have a criminal past, so I wonder what’s taking them so long.

In the meantime, I’ve been trying to get everything ready for the switch up. I’ve been procuring cleaning implements that will be easy for the Mister to use on crutches or in a wheelchair (the possibility is there). I’ve been doing all of the heavy lifting chores that I’ve been putting off in hopes that the Mister would do them, things like putting summer stuff in the attic and rearranging furniture. As well as doing the things that take some squeezing and contortionism to accomplish (like cleaning in between the tub and vanity, where a mop won’t fit).

Otherwise, its been relatively quiet… now next week… that will be my kicker week. Sam turns 6, Halloween, etc, etc, etc…

Whew.

Crackity Crack Crack

October 21, 2008 at 8:58 am (General WhatsIt)

The most fun that I have had in the longest time happened last night.  Yesterday, our friend Ben brought over the new Rock Band 2 set. We played some here and there, but then Ben left to go do homework. So the Mister and I were left to own devices. Seeing that we now had two sets of Rock Band drums (the old version one set and the new version two set) the Mister and I decided to compete head to head in the tug-of-war contest in the new game. This is the first time that we’ve been able to do this… we were only ever able to go head to head with the guitars before.

So, the night began with Eye of the Tiger and progressed on. The Mister thought it was hilarious that whenever I messed up, I would burst in to fits of giggles. Not being the drum player I frequently forgot that I would have the hit the bass pedal and the snare drums… at the same time… in a wierd combination of this thing called rhythym and timing. I wasn’t doing terrible (I was getting 98% on medium having never really played the drums on the game before)… but I would occasionally lose a stick, crack the stick off of the plastic of the drum, and lose my place. However, the Mister broke a stick in half… so I guess we’re even.

Back And Forth

October 16, 2008 at 10:42 am (General WhatsIt)

On Monday night we got back from visiting my parents. The Mister had come home earlier in the weekend with Zach, so it was just me and FDs on the way home. Seeing as the children are just as carcaleptic as I used to be, I was pretty much left to my own devices to keep myself awake.

On Saturday, we went to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. It was awesome as always. We got to watch jousting and sword fighting…

…And eat sweet treats….

I also got to watch my favorite Renaissance show… Hack & Slash

(I’ll be honest, my favorite half of the duo is Squire Slash… the one in the kilt… mmmm…. kilt)

Then we visited with my family, taking time to see all my nieces and nephew…This is my niece Kaya and TJ, who eerily look like brother and sister.

There was a lot of playing, and a couple of mohawks…

On the way home, I tried to take some pictures of things I see whenever I come back. Like the castle…

Signs for the Naked Mountain Winery (which I figure would be a cold place to work at, what with everyone being naked and all… and I really don’t want to think about how they stir things there)

and glancing at Chapman’s Mill as I drove by, remembering how once my sister and I skipped school and went there… and how spooky I thought it was…

It was an awesome time.

Also, I discovered something disturbing while in Virginia (which has nothing to do with my family or the trip, it was ust something I discovered while there) that the girl who plays ‘Stephanie’ from Lazytown is 17. 17!!

Oh, and I might have a job… woohoo!

My Weekend In Pictures

October 8, 2008 at 10:57 am (General WhatsIt)

My weekends are usually quite tame. Then there are the weekends when the kids do crazy stuff. Crazy stuff that we can’t even imagine what they were thinking when they did them. Like, for example, why did Sam fall asleep like so?

As you can see here he has fallen asleep with a bucket on his head, a glove on his foot, there are pants on his face, and he’s managed to put one leg of jammy pants over his jeans on his left leg.

How did he manage to get himself in to this predicament?

(probably my favorite part of this picture is how the Mister just let him hangs there so I can take a picture)

I’m also entertained on how my Mister can’t take a picture to save his life… (methinks he gets a little too close)

Yeah… that’s me.  Flattering, don’t you think?

Next weekend we’re heading off to MD & VA to see the Stephieface Parental Units. Woohoo!

The Switch Up… In My Pants

October 5, 2008 at 8:51 am (General WhatsIt)

Recently, the Mister has been in a lot of pain. When he was in the Marines, he got a bionic knee… and his hearing got really crappy (really he’s not ignoring me… really… I hope so anyway). The recent excess of pain has come from his job, ever since they started a 12 hour work day. While the days off are nice (since he has 4 of them), the long hours standing are starting to do him in.  While he was already compensating for the bionic knee in day to day activities, the long hours made him compensate more… and then the parts of his body he was using to compensate started to hurt and be compensated for themselves.

Its hard to watch your husband be in pain with every movement in every moment. So we’ve decided to try switching up again. The Mister would become the House Mister and I would become the bread winner. He’s already been to the doctor and he’ll need to get some work done (on his knee… on his foot… on his…) afterwards he’ll need time to recover (like healing and physical therapy). Which means, no more 12 hour workdays standing on his feet.

Sure, I’m nervous. I haven’t had a career-like job since 2002 when Sam was born. Yet, when it comes down to me working, or the Mister working and getting worse… the answer was simple… scary and exciting- but simple.

On the plus sides:

  • I’ll get to talk to people over age 5 on a daily basis
  • The Mister can deal with Miss Has Sam Two Hours A Day
  • The Mister will be (relatively) stress free, and a stress free Mister is a happy Mister
  • I’ll get some time to myself (finally!) where I don’t have a hundred questions being fired at me about why Captain K-nuckles has crazy hands, and could I be gracious enough to explain why Johnny Test’s dog is named Dookie

I’m really looking forward to it all… I really am.

Out Of It

October 1, 2008 at 8:53 am (General WhatsIt)

For the last week or two, I’ve been really out of it. I’ve Just sort of hung out, trying to keep things on an even keel.

I’d love to say that I’ve been busy, but I haven’t been overly so- I’ve just been too lazy to write on the blog. It happens now and again, where I don’t really have anything to write about… and everything I do write about seems to be really angry or complain-y. So I took a small unintenional break. Which is good.

I’ve worked now and again on the Mister’s hat.

I’ve made some horns for the shop, I still have to paint them up and seal them. I have to wait for a non rainy day so I can let them dry, and take pictures so I can add them to the shop. I’m trying to get the Mister to help with the horn painting, because (one) that would be super helpful and (two) he’s really good at it. We tried out a set of horns this weekend by using medical adhesive to keep them on. Since they weigh in at under 1/3 an ounce they stayed on really well. I did have a horn malfunction at one point where one just fell off, but that was more due to the fact that my head was oily and I didn’t use the oil remover before applying the horns. When I used astringent on my head, then reapplied the horn it stayed right in place. The downside now, though, is that I still have adhesive on my head… luckily my hair covers up the spots.

I’ve been warring with Sam’s Kindergarten teacher. I don’t much like her at all. Sadly, she is the only Kindergarten teacher in the school. The Mister believes that she is one of those Kindergarten teachers that just has an educational degree, but no child developement education… mainly because she seems to make complaints to me that Sam is generally being a kid. One of my neighbors (and my sister) thinks it may be due to the fact that there are more than twice as many girls in the class as boys… and since girls mature faster than boys, the boys are being singled out for bad behavior since there are less of them in the class. Personally, while I know that sometimes Sam can be a handful (as most kids can occasionally be) I know he’s not as bad as she makes it seem. Also, all of the bad misbehaving kids apparently come from my neighborhood and nowhere else, since so far its only been my neighbors who have been told that their children misbehave. There are one or two children who I would have pegged as handfuls who do not live in my neighborhood, and their parents have yet to be spoken to about their behavior. One of the neighbor parents has deemed the teacher a ‘classist’, since while we aren’t so bad off that we’re living in boxes and bathing in fountains… we also are not your typical “Moon Township Area” type people (think yuppies driving BMWs and living out of a Land’s End catalog).  I don’t know if this is true, but I see many  more fights with the teacher in my future. By the way, we never had complaints over issues in his behavior when he was in full day pre school… think about that Miss Has Them Two And Half Hours a Day.

To lighten the mood, we should play a game called ‘In My Pants’… where you end all of your sentences with “…in my pants”. So go ahead and leave a comment… in my pants.
