I Clearly Have Issues

June 26, 2008 at 10:43 am (General WhatsIt)

Yesterday was a nice sunny day, which was a nice break from the rainy ones we’d been having lately. So I thought I would wash and hang my kerchiefs out to dry in the sun… and then I saw how many of them I have… and this isn’t all of them…

I now know why the Mister makes fun of me about them, I have so gosh darn many. Now I know where his ‘Are you auditioning for Fiddler on the Roof?’ comments come from.

And then I took time, yesterday, to admire my container garden…

…and my super tall tomato plant. As well as baby cutting tomato plants…

I was starting to worry, what with all of the rain, that my munstead lavender was never going to grow. I read in a lot of places that it was really easy for the seeds to rot if there was too much water… and well, here it was dumping from the sky day after day. I haven’t watered it since I planted it since pretty much Mother Nature was doing that for me. Though I did dissolve some prenatal vitamins I had in water and poured that in the pot… at this point, what harm could it do? Apparently none…

I have lavender seedlings! See though how wet the dirt in the pot is? I’m not really sure its ever going to dry out, it even rained last night. So I took an empty 2liter bottle, cut off the bottom and cut a “door” into it and placed that over the pot to help greenhouse a little bit. Hopefully it will help keep some of the rain off and keep some of the sun’s heat on. Here’s hoping!

When Will I Rejoin The Living?

June 24, 2008 at 10:55 am (General WhatsIt)

I actually have no clue. I want to blog more, but just don’t seem to get around to it.

We’re mostly unpacked, right now we’re just deciding what goes where, and if I should allow a computer in my bedroom or not. It would be my computer which has been vacationing for a while, so I’ve been using the Mister’s. While getting the old monster up and running in a new lair would be nice, I am generally against having anything like that in my bedroom. No TVs, no computers, I like having nothing but the essentials in there so that I associate the bedroom with sleeping (and not reading knitting blogs, or webcomics).

In the old house, when the computer was in the room I slept terribly… being awake like that caused two backlashes… I would either eat more -or- since I was a smoker at the time I would smoke more, neither of which were all that healthy for me. So the beast was moved downstairs and I started sleeping better. So I am hesitant to bring the beast to bed again, since now I have four kids who think that sleeping is a luxury for me.

However, this new house is doing wonders for all of us. The kids are playing outside and making friends (you can often hear Sam yelling over the fence, “Hey friend… friend… come here and play!”). The Mister stopped playing WoW and most computer games, and is becoming more active. I’ve started becoming obsessive with my little container garden outside… obtaining even more tomato plants which right now I need like a hole in the head… and yet I have more all the same (A hole in my head? Sure! Air conditioning for my brain I say!). All in all everyone just seems happier.

Today is the Mister and my 4th wedding anniversary, though we’ve been together much longer than that… going on 7 or 8 years now. It hasn’t always been an easy 7 or 8 years, but that doesn’t matter, I know that now. The Mister, for me, has been the longest relationship I have ever had. We passed that milestone the year TJ was born.

Sometimes the Mister can make me so mad that I could hit him with a frying pan… or at the very least poke him with my knitting needles, but that doesn’t mean that we are terrible together and should break up right now. I know that now, when long ago I thought a fight spelled imminent doom for any relationship.

There was a time, a year or two ago, when people would talk to me about the Mister. Saying things like, “I don’t know how you put up with his crap.”

Honestly though, sure… I do put up with a lot of his crap… he has a temper that could use a little retweaking, and he becomes unusually obsessed with games (video games, LARPing, etc)… but he manages to put up with my crap… lack of decision and plan making, and I could stand to be a little more obsessive with the housework… its a wonderful little trade off. We work well together, like rocks and water… sometimes the water wears down the rock and makes it smooth, sometimes the rock keeps the water from straying from the riverbed… but together they make waterfalls and that’s just beautiful.

The Necessities….

June 18, 2008 at 9:39 am (General WhatsIt)

We are still unpacking… apparently I unpack just as quickly as I pack, which is assumedly slow as hell. Though I have made sure that our new home has all of the necessities… like a bird feeder and bird houses…

Because, you know, those things are important.

And when I’m not relishing in the fabulousness that is TJ dressing himself in the morning….

[That would be a spiky hat, frog shirt, armwarmers, and cowboy boots.... brilliance!... and he was dressed like this all day, no matter where we went.]

… I look over my wee little container garden of tomatoes, cucumber, and lavender….

[from left to right... (hopefully if the seeds sprout) Munstead Lavender, beefsteak tomatoes, yellow pear tomatoes, and cucumbers]

[Provence Lavender]

Who needs unpacked clothes and knickknacks when I have plants and bird feeders to look over… right?

I Haven’t Forgotten That I Am A Knitter…

June 13, 2008 at 11:15 am (Knittery Craftery)

Seriously, I haven’t. Sure, most of my knitting stuff is still packed, and I’m still trying to find a place to store my stash… but I can still drool over new yarn when it comes to my house…

With the flash looking more like it really does…

Nummy new yarn from Yarn Treehouse. She has so much more that I want to buy so I can up and stash it away for a rainy day… or a cold day in winter when my heat’s not working and I can snuggle down in its yarny goodness to keep warm. I also received a set of 6 stitch markers from sunneshine’s etsy shop

… Ravenclaw orbs, bought in celebration of moving into the new house. The Mister’s and My first place together (since I had already lived in the old apartment when he moved in). Love my stitch markers :D

Yesterday we went to the Three Rivers Art Festival. Sadly I forgot my camera, but know that the chocolate covered strawberries were … AWE-SOME.

The Squeeage Just Does Not Stop

June 10, 2008 at 11:22 am (General WhatsIt)

So, after the Jonathan Coulton concert, I had thought that I could never squee as much as I had squeed that night.

Then the Mister came home yesterday with what he called my Ever-So-Late-Mother’s-Day-Present…

He said it was so that I could make at least one of my dreams a reality. He is such a sweety.

Now….. I just have to learn how to play.

Oh My Freaking Gosh….!!!

June 8, 2008 at 9:01 am (General WhatsIt)

About two months ago, the Mister got fed up with me. He said that if I wanted to go out an do anything date wise with him that I would have to arrange it. Later that same day, I received an email from Eventful telling me that Jonathan Coulton had an appearance scheduled in Pittsburgh. When the Mister came home that night he received a card asking if he would like to join me in spending an evening with another man. I had already arranged for child care, bought the tickets, the night was a go.

Come 7pm last night, I was already squeeing… and the show was just starting.

First up on stage was Paul and Storm who were seriously freaking funny. At one point, during the song called “The Captain’s Wife’s Lament” (um… it is a play on words kind of song… Not Work Safe… have to explain an uncomfortable play on words to your kids type song) I was in tears with laughter. They have the audience act as the Captain’s Pirate Crew and you are asked to say “Arrrr” when they point to you. Sometimes they would ask that you say Arrrr in a certain way… like Hopeful Arrr… or Dejected Arrrr. This escalated in to all manner of things in which we could say Arrrrrr… like who sells a pirate’s favorite beef and cheddar sandwich? Arrrrrrrby’s… pirate’s favorite sci fi movie? Starrrrrrr Wars… I could barely breathe.

Then Jonathan Coulton came on stage and pretty much sang every one of my favoritest songs… including the Mr Fancy Pants extended remix…(be forewarned, the video it all Blair Witchy Twitchy)

It was an awesomely fun night- thank you JoCo, Paul, and Storm!!!! (see them if they come to your town!)

Taking My Stuff For A Joy Ride

June 5, 2008 at 9:15 am (General WhatsIt)

Finally! We’re moved and we have internet again.

I can never really get over the feeling that I just took every one of my belongings for a joy ride… pack them up, put them in the truck, drive for a bit, take them out of the truck, unpack them.

The kids are loving the “New House”, they’re sleeping better, playing better… in fact I’m sleeping better because they’re sleeping better.

So far, so good… now I just have to unpack everything.
